Feature Article Critique

This feature article is nicely done. There are some improvements that could be made but nevertheless it is very good. The writer has lots of experience in writing about music. The knowledge can be seen in the article. The interviews helped made his article more interesting to read.

The writer starts with an anecdote. It explains what the article is going to focus on. The details are well covered and the structure of the article is very well done. The W5 is placed in the opening paragraph, although not in the opening sentence. The interview involved the necessary people involved in pioneering the musical. There could have been more details regarding the musical itself. The musical itself is due to hit Berkeley Repertory Theatre on September 2009. There are not many facts to be presented yet, and there should be another feature following the musical once it has showed.

The interview for Billie Joe Armstrong is quite different that what is usually presented in the media. He gives his opinion on Mayer’s work as well as his own opinion towards this upcoming play. The questions asked are sufficient for the topic and the answer is well noted. As Green Day’s singer/guitarist, Billie responded well to the situation and criticism from fans and also other music experts. The last question in Billie’s interview is not quite necessary; it can be replaced with another question that will give extra spice to the article. A question such as, “how do you think Green Day fans are going to feel about the musical?” would be more interesting than a statement of watching Billie’s show the other night.

The questions that were asked for Michael were more interesting and serious. They always refer to his previous play and comparing it with how the new musical is going to be. As the interview goes, the questions got more serious, this is good because it gives the reader an insight on what is going through Michael’s head. There are some questions concerning Billie’s quality as a musician and these types of questions interest people.

The writing style is good and overall the story is done nicely. It is not done in a narrative way which is better because the readers will be more interested. The writer wanted to give the reader a general idea of how the musical is produced. The topic is very interesting, because not many punk-rock bands get to have their songs being produced as a Broadway play.
